Looking back at our summer of fun!

It seems only a few weeks ago that I was preparing an adventure in an enchanted forest and writing a script for Summer School and yet here we are nearly half way through October and heading towards half term!

Every time I look at the pictures and videos from the summer I can’t

help but smile! The first toddler workshop was Unicorns, Rainbows and Sparkle and it was a riot of colour, props, glitter and fun! Myself, Charlie and Francesca headed off into the Enchanted Forest with 17 very excited little ones. We danced our way through the unicorn raindrops and when the rainbow appeared we danced with our ribbons. We scared the Evil Sorcerer away with our wands before galloping like unicorns to the centre of the forest where we dipped our toes in the pond and sprinkled magical unicorn fairy dust before dancing at the Unicorn Ball!

A week later and it was time for our Welcome to the Big Top Summer School. Inspired by the huge hit film The Greatest Showman, we danced, sung and acted our way through the 4 days. On the Wednesday we were delighted to welcome Glynn from Alight Fingers. His action-packed two hour Circus Skills Workshop was loved by everyone. We walked on stilts, rode the unicycle, juggled, balanced feathers on our chins and loads more! It was wonderful to see the children so captivated. By the end of the week we were ready to perform our show for friends and family – and what a show it was! A one hour show on stage with full costumes and incredible face painting courtesy of Face Paints by Mel. There were props, popcorn, circus skills and lots and lots of energy! I have had such wonderful feedback since the show:

“The girls had a fabulous time and are still singing and dancing now! The performance was amazing and I have to agree that the strongman bit was very funny!”

“Lottie loved the summer school and the final performance was excellent! Lottie will definitely do another holiday workshop!”

"The show was amazing! Honestly, I don't know how you did it, but well done!“

My problem now is how do I top that next summer!

Melody Bears Beach Party on the 14th August was our final workshop for the summer and although the weather outside was a little overcast, the fun we had inside certainly made up for it. We flew on the aeroplane, explored rock pools and hid from the shark! There was even dancing with maracas in our Carnival Dance!

It may seem like the children had all the fun, but my adult dancers didn’t miss out. Over four consecutive Monday evenings we enjoyed learning a tap dance to Meghan Trainor’s Dance Like Yo Daddy and some Swan Lake repertoire in ballet. There was even birthday cake, as we celebrated my birthday at the end of July!

Our summer of fun may have ended, but there is still lots to look forward to for the rest of this year, including: a Halloween workshop in half term, a performance at Abbeyfield Residential Home, Fun Bun Week and our Children's Christmas Party!
